DD13 / 1.0335 hot-rolled steel sheet and strip (EN 10111, close to IS 1079 HR3 and JIS SPHE)
DD13 (1.0335) is the deep-drawing grade of EN 10111, a hot-rolled low-carbon strip with the highest elongation below DD14. Its nearest equivalents are IS 1079 HR3 and JIS G 3131 SPHE; ASTM A1011 has no deep-drawing hot-rolled designation, and DS Type B is only a loose match.

What it is called in each region
| Region | System | Designation | Standard | Match |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USA | ASTM A1011 | DS Type BA1011 offers CS and DS only; there is no hot-rolled DDS designation (DDS exists in ASTM A1008 for cold-rolled sheet). DS Type B is the nearest hot-rolled US grade but is less demanding than DD13. | ASTM A1011/A1011M | Closest equivalent |

On equivalence
- No equivalent is identical. DD13, IS 1079 HR3 and JIS SPHE are all deep-drawing hot-rolled grades, but their limits differ.
- ASTM A1011 has no hot-rolled deep-drawing designation: its drawing steel is DS Type A or B, which is less demanding. The US 'DDS' name belongs to cold-rolled sheet in ASTM A1008, so do not read it across.
- Tata Steel's chart describes IS 1079 HR1 to HR4 as commercial, drawing, deep drawing and extra deep drawing. HR3 (tensile ≤400 MPa, A ≥28 %) lines up numerically with DD13, and HR4 (≤380 MPa, A ≥31 %) with DD14.
- The IS 1079 composition limits for HR3 could not be read from a source we could verify.
- DD13’s legacy DIN name is StW 24 (number 1.0335), as listed on the thyssenkrupp precidur DD13 data sheet.
- SPHE limits follow the current JIS G 3131 listing (Mycron); one supplier table prints C 0.10, Mn 0.50 and S 0.035.

Behaviour, heat treatment and uses
Characteristics
- Very low carbon (≤0.08 %) and manganese (≤0.40 %), with phosphorus and sulphur held to 0.030 %: the steel stays soft and ductile for deep drawing.
- Maximum tensile strength is 400 MPa, 40 MPa below DD11, with 33 % minimum elongation above 3 mm.
- Readily weldable, and responds well to deep drawing, stretch forming and flanging in hot-rolled gauges.
- Produced in a narrower thickness range than DD11 and DD12 (mills quote about 1.0 to 8 mm); confirm availability for heavy gauges.
Heat treatment
- Supplied hot rolled from the coil; no heat treatment is needed for forming.
- Not hardened; the very low carbon content gives no useful response to quenching.
- Hot-dip galvanizing or pickling and oiling is applied by agreement.
Typical uses
- Deep-drawn and stretch-formed parts such as wheel centres and fuel-tank halves
- Pressed automotive structural and chassis parts with severe forming
- Appliance and machine housings
- Cylinders, gas bottles and tank ends

Questions answered
Common questions
What is the equivalent of DD13 steel?
The nearest equivalents are IS 1079 HR3 and JIS G 3131 SPHE. ASTM A1011 has no hot-rolled deep-drawing grade; DS Type B is the nearest US designation but is less demanding.
Is DD13 the same as SPHE?
They are both deep-drawing hot-rolled grades but not the same specification. SPHE requires a 270 MPa minimum tensile strength; DD13 sets maximum yield (up to 330 MPa) and tensile strength (400 MPa).
What are the DD13 yield and tensile strength?
EN 10111 gives DD13 a yield range of 170–330 MPa under 2 mm and 170–310 MPa from 2 to 11 mm, with tensile strength up to 400 MPa. Minimum elongation is 33 % from 3 mm.
Is DD13 the same as DC04?
No. DC04 (EN 10130) is cold-rolled and thinner, with a finer surface and tighter tolerances. DD13 is hot rolled from 1 mm up; it is used where hot-rolled gauges and a rougher surface are acceptable.
