Temporary vine support during establishment
Small-diameter steel stakes that direct your young vines' growth straight upward through the first years after planting, before permanent trellis structure takes over the support role.

Stakes & Accessories
Grape Stakes are small-diameter steel stakes you install beside young vines during vineyard establishment, giving each vine the support it needs to grow straight and strong before you begin cordon or cane training. You remove them once the trunk has developed enough strength to stand on its own. Tell us your row spacing and vine variety and we'll help you specify the right stake length and gauge.
At a glance
Small-diameter steel stakes that direct your young vines' growth straight upward through the first years after planting, before permanent trellis structure takes over the support role.
Supports upright vine development during your establishment years, when wind, ground disturbance, and growth pressure threaten to bend young stems or create weak trunk geometry.
Small-diameter steel in 18–12 gauge; 2 to 6 feet lengths; plain finish.
Also known as
Grape Stakes are training stakes in the US and vine stakes in the UK, tuteur in France, Pflanzstab in German-speaking markets, tutore per vigneto in Italy and tutor de hierro in Spanish.
Drive the stake into the soil next to the young vine and tie the vine stem to it as growth progresses. The stake holds the vine stem vertical against wind and ground movement, letting it develop a strong, straight trunk ready for cordon or cane training once establishment is complete.
Choosing between
Both support young vines and trees while they grow up to the wire in vineyard and orchard rows. They differ in section and surface.
Common applications
Directs upright trunk development in your VSP systems and other training methods through the establishment years after planting.
Maintains vine alignment and trunk integrity during the planting-to-maturity transition in your table grape T-trellis and raisin systems.
Prevents wind sway and breakage while your vines build the strong, straight trunk geometry that mature cordons and canes depend on.
Questions answered
Grape Stakes carry your vines through the establishment window, holding each trunk straight until it's strong enough to take on cordon or cane training. Once vines mature, permanent structure — line posts, wires, pencil rods — takes over the support role your stakes provided.
