DC05 (1.0312) / ASTM A1008 EDDS / IS 513 CR4 / JIS SPCF cold-rolled sheet

DC05 (1.0312) is the extra-deep-drawing cold-rolled low-carbon steel sheet of EN 10130, for the most demanding pressings short of IF steel. Its nearest names are ASTM A1008 EDDS, IS 513 CR4 (EDD) and JIS G 3141 SPCF.

On equivalence

  • DC05 has no exact equivalent. ASTM A1008 EDDS is stabilised with carbon ≤0.02 %, while DC05 is aluminium killed with carbon ≤0.06 %; the two share a forming class, not a chemistry.
  • IS 513 CR4 has a higher yield limit (210 MPa against 180 MPa), a lower A80 minimum (36 % against 40 %) and r-bar only by agreement, so it is a looser grade than DC05.
  • SPCF has the same carbon limit (0.06 %) but a larger manganese limit (0.45 %) and no r or n requirement; its 210 MPa yield limit is informative only.
  • Sources pair DC05 with SPCF and EDDS loosely. ArcelorMittal lists no ASTM or JIS equivalent for DC05, so treat these pairings as closest, not exact.
  • DC05 sits between DC04 and DC06. Use DC06 when a non-ageing, stabilised IF steel is required.

In practice

Behaviour, heat treatment and uses

Characteristics

  • Aluminium-killed low-carbon steel (C 0.06 % maximum) with guaranteed r90 of 1.9 and n90 of 0.20, the highest forming class of the aluminium-killed EN 10130 grades.
  • Yield strength of 140–180 MPa, tensile strength of 270–330 MPa and A80 of at least 40 % at nominal thickness.
  • Mechanical properties are valid for six months from dispatch, and surface quality A and B are guaranteed free of stretcher-strain marks for the same period.
  • May contain boron or titanium. For the deepest draws and non-ageing behaviour without a time limit, step up to DC06 (IF steel).
  • EN 10130 defines two surface qualities. Quality A allows small defects that do not impair forming or coating (pores, light scratches, slight dents, slight colour change). Quality B requires the better side to be free of defects that would show through high-grade paint or electroplating, with the other side at least quality A; B is for skin-passed product only and not every size is offered in it.
  • Skin-passed sheet can be ordered with a roughness finish: bright b (Ra up to 0.4 µm), semi-bright g (up to 0.9 µm), normal m (0.6–1.9 µm, the default) or rough r (above 1.6 µm). The finish cannot be specified for non-skin-passed product.
  • Thin gauges: yield strength limit rises by 20 MPa from 0.5 to 0.7 mm and by 40 MPa at 0.5 mm and below, and minimum A80 falls by 2 and 4 points. r90 and n90 apply from 0.5 mm; above 2 mm r90 falls by 0.2.
  • Welds readily by resistance spot and arc processes because of the low carbon and manganese content.
  • Available as DC05+ZE (electrolytic zinc, EN 10152) and as DX56D hot-dip galvanized (EN 10346); the coated grades have their own standards.

Heat treatment

  • Supplied cold rolled, then annealed (batch or continuous) and skin-passed. It is a non-hardening steel; quenching adds nothing.
  • Skin passing sets the surface finish and suppresses stretcher-strain lines. Form within the six-month property period before ageing brings the yield point back.
  • Preheat is not normally needed when welding thin sheet; stress relieving is not required.

Usos habituales

  • Complex automotive inner panels and structural pressings
  • Deep-drawn appliance parts, drums and housings
  • Parts with tight corner radii or large draw ratios
  • Pressed parts that are later painted or electroplated
  • Drawn components where DC04 shows wrinkling or splitting

Preguntas resueltas

Common questions

What is the equivalent of DC05?

The closest equivalents are ASTM A1008 EDDS, IS 513 CR4 (EDD) and JIS G 3141 SPCF. None is exact. The old German name is St 15 and the EN 10130:1991 name is FeP05.

What is the difference between DC05 and DC06?

DC06 is a titanium-stabilised IF steel with carbon of 0.02 % maximum, A80 of 41 %, r90 of 2.1 and n90 of 0.22, and no stretcher-strain limit. DC05 is aluminium killed with carbon up to 0.06 %, A80 of 40 %, r90 of 1.9 and a six-month property period.

Is DC05 an IF steel?

No. EN 10130 requires titanium stabilisation only for DC06 and DC07. DC05 is aluminium-killed low-carbon steel with a guaranteed six-month property period.

Is IS 513 CR4 the same as DC05?

CR4 is the usual Indian pairing but it is not the same. CR4 allows a 210 MPa yield limit and requires 36 % elongation, against 180 MPa and 40 % for DC05, and has no mandatory r90.

What are the r90 and n90 values of DC05?

EN 10130 requires r90 of at least 1.9 (1.7 above 2 mm) and n90 of at least 0.200 for thickness from 0.5 mm.
