Props: two adjustable steel shoring props with base plates, top plates and pin handles

Props & Trench Struts

Props

Props are adjustable steel supports in the UK size series #0 to #4, with an outer 60.3 mm threaded tube and an inner 48.3 mm tube held at height by a prop nut and locked by a G pin. They support formwork, slabs, beams and back-propping in falsework and shoring systems throughout concrete curing and structural assembly. Specify the size, finish and the quantity you need.

Five sizes for every support depth

Size series #0 to #4 from 1.1 m to 4.87 m

Each size has its own height range when fully extended: #0 reaches 1.1–1.8 m, #1 reaches 1.75–3.12 m, #2 reaches 2.0–3.4 m, #3 reaches 2.59–3.96 m, and #4 reaches 3.2–4.87 m. Choose the size so the closed height fits under your formwork and the extended height lifts the load to the working position you need.

Prop nut and G pin locking

Screw to adjust; pin to lock

Turn the prop nut on the outer tube to raise or lower the inner tube to your working height. Once there, slip the G pin through the hole in the inner tube so it rests on the prop nut; the pin cannot drop out, and the inner tube cannot slip down, so the prop stays at that length under load until you remove the pin to adjust again.

Component assembly

Outer and inner tubes with threaded connection

Common applications

Where it is used.

Application

Supporting fresh concrete decks and suspended slabs

Place props under formwork during concrete pours so the slab stays level while concrete sets. The adjustable height means you can shim uneven sub-structure quickly, and the locked pin holds each prop steady so the slab does not deflect as concrete cures.

Application

Back-propping while formwork is struck and rebuilt

After concrete gains strength, keep props in place under beams and slabs while you remove the forms above and erect the next level. The locked prop height prevents creep as the concrete shrinks and load transfers, keeping the stage level and the structure's geometry true.

Application

Tall falsework towers for bridges and viaducts

Falsework structures need many props in banks to reach the height of the deck being supported. Props sized #3 and #4 let you stack support beams high, with smaller props filling the gaps and the pins locking every member solid under the combined weight of steel and concrete.

Questions answered

Common questions.

What are adjustable steel props called in different regions?
Props are adjustable steel props, post shores or shoring posts in the US and formwork props or adjustable props in Australia and New Zealand. They are an étai in French, a Deckenstütze or Baustütze in German, puntelli telescopici in Italian and a puntal telescópico or puntal de obra in Spanish.
What height does each prop size cover?
Props in the UK size series cover set height bands: size 0 about 1.1 to 1.8 m, size 1 about 1.75 to 3.12 m, size 2 about 2.0 to 3.4 m, size 3 about 2.59 to 3.96 m and size 4 about 3.2 to 4.87 m. The outer tube is 60.3 x 3.6 mm and the inner tube 48.3 x 3.2 mm.
Scaffolding & Shoring Systems

Adjustable supports in falsework and formwork systems

Props hold formwork, slabs and beams at the working height, with the prop nut and G pin locking the height. They work with Hi-Load Screw Jacks for foundations and Threaded Tube, Prop Nut and G Pin as component parts of the same assembly.
