Prop Nut: cast steel prop nut with a handle, which runs on a prop’s threaded tube to set its height

Props & Trench Struts

Prop Nut

Prop Nut is a cast or drop-forged nut with a welded 12 mm handle that threads onto the outer threaded tube of an adjustable steel prop. The G pin rests on it, and turning it gives the fine height adjustment. As you turn the nut on its 4 TPI thread, the inner tube rises or falls by small increments, allowing you to dial in the exact height needed under the formwork or shoring load. Specify the size (#0–#4) and the quantity you need.

Design and handle

Cast or drop-forged nut with 12 mm welded handle

The solid nut body threads onto the outer tube and the welded handle provides leverage for turning. The handle makes it easy to grip and adjust the nut by hand on site without tools.

Thread specification

4 TPI thread to suit 60.3 mm tubes

The nut is machined to British and European standard 4 TPI (threads per inch) and runs on the threaded outer tube in sizes #0–#4.

Role in the prop

Fine adjustment and G pin support

The nut threads up and down the outer tube to set fine height. The G pin rests on the nut's top face, and turning the nut raises or lowers the G pin and the inner tube in precise increments.

Also known as

Prop Nuts are prop collars in the UK, Australia and New Zealand; in Italian the nut is a ghiera.

Common applications

Where it is used.

Application

Formwork deck leveling in falsework towers

Set the coarse height with the G pin, then use the prop nut to fine-adjust the deck level across the falsework. The threaded adjustment lets you achieve the exact finished-slab height.

Application

Beam and slab formwork under load

Dial the prop nut to bring the formwork gradually up to the underside of the beam or slab. The handle gives you leverage and control as you take up the load.

Application

Replacement and fleet rebuilds

Replace damaged or stripped nuts when they no longer grip the thread cleanly. Corona supplies nuts in all five size series to keep your prop fleet operational across multiple projects.

Questions answered

Common questions.

What is a prop nut called in different regions?
Prop Nut is a prop nut or prop collar in the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and a ghiera in Italian. It is the nut with a handle that runs on the threaded tube of an adjustable steel prop and carries the G pin.
Which prop nut fits which prop?
Prop Nut must match the thread of the prop's threaded tube. Corona makes it with a 4 TPI thread to suit 60.3 mm threaded tubes, cast or drop-forged with a 12 mm welded handle, for props in sizes #0 to #4.
