Earth Anchor / Auger: red screw-in earth anchor with an eye loop and helix blade for holding pole guy wires

Anchors & Nuts

Earth Anchor / Auger

Earth Anchor / Auger is a screw anchor for pole guys: a steel helix on a rod with an eye at the top, turned into the soil at the lead of the guy. The guy wire is made off to the eye and holds angle and dead-end poles upright. Specify rod diameter, helix diameter, length, finish and the quantity you need.

Function

Holds the guy in the ground

The anchor gives the down guy a fixed point in the soil, so the pole resists the pull of the line.

Helix and eye

Helix plate and forged or welded eye

The helix screws the anchor into the soil; the single or double eye at the top takes the guy fittings.

Product form

1/2 to 1 in rod, 4 to 10 in helix

1/2–1 in (12–25 mm) rods, 4–10 in (100–250 mm) helixes of 8 G (4 mm) and above, 12 in (300 mm) long and above, painted, powder coated or hot dip galvanized.

Common applications

Where it is used.

Application

Angle and dead-end poles

Poles where the line turns or ends carry an unbalanced pull. A down guy to a screw anchor holds them upright.

Application

Equipment and long-span poles

Poles carrying heavy equipment or long spans are guyed against leaning. The helix size is chosen for the soil at the site.

Application

Communication and lighting poles

Telecommunication and lighting poles are guyed the same way. Painted or galvanized anchors suit each owner's specification.

Questions answered

Common questions.

What is an earth anchor called in other markets?
US utility suppliers call it a screw anchor, guy anchor, earth anchor or helix anchor. In French it is an ancre à vis. Corona supplies it with a forged or welded single or double eye, painted, powder coated or hot dip galvanized.
How is the helix size of a screw anchor chosen?
Softer soils need a larger helix to hold the guy; firm soils can take a smaller one. Buyers set the helix diameter, rod diameter and length from the soil and the guy design. Corona makes 4 to 10 in (100 to 250 mm) helixes on 1/2 to 1 in (12 to 25 mm) rods.
